While you sometimes need to "inspire" your little friends to perform for the camera, some of them are just natural hams. Here, we see "Shadow the Rat Boy" peeking out from his security blanket. When not cuddling (and "designing") inside this blanket, his favorite activities were to hop down stairs and watch the Friday night videos with Mom and I, or reminding Mom to pick up her clothes from the floor, lest they become religious ("holey") garments.

Another of our shy and retiring ratties was "Joe Cool", alternately known as Joey Da Rat, Rattie Rat, and just plain "JDR". He loved to hang out in the little rat condo I've built him from printer paper boxes.

Reese and Zinny were a couple littermates, or so we were told. Thinking about it, though, a blue Berkshire and a cream self (at least that's what I THINK their colors would be called) in the same litter seems strange. Oh, well, they grew up together and seemed to get along... when they weren't fighting with each other!

As noted above, soon after we lost Zinny, we picked up two more littermates we found in a little pet shop about 15 miles north of here. Below, they are hanging out with "Sir Hawthorne," a cute end table in the shape of a dog.

Remy (on the left) and Jack are pretty athletic guys, and have me struggling to figure out how to keep them in their rat room. The barriers that held Reese and Zinny well confined are nothing more than a jumping challenge for these two, who have become quite adept at hiding behind and under sofas.
